Castles, greenery, wine and gastronomy in Castel Ritaldi
after visiting the castle and the church dedicated to St. Marina, it takes just a few minutes to reach the Pieve di San Gregorio, a Romanesque building built around 1141, with splendid bas-relief decorations on the façade and the portal with its recessed arches depicting a ring of plant motifs intertwined with fantastic figures. Continuing along the path that leads to the hamlet of Colle del Marchese, you will be able to admire a relaxing landscape, rich in cultivations, in particular olive trees and grapes: Castel Ritaldi is indeed also characterised by the production of an excellent extra virgin olive oil, made by the numerous millers in the area with love and passion. In this regard, to celebrate the harvesting and pressing of the olive, in November the Municipal Administration joins the Strade dell’Olio (Routes of olive oil) circuit and organises, with the valuable contribution of the IAC association, “FRANTOTIPICO”, an event for families linked to the production of new oil, with its unmistakable spicy taste. Finally, tourists can find refreshment inside the Castle, which once belonged to the Parenzi family, and inside which there is the ancient church of San Pancras, which is no longer used for worship and inside which a fresco depicting the Madonna, attributed to Melanzio, has recently been restored.
