Living nativity scene in Marcellano
The characteristic Umbrian village, due to its shape and the splendid landscape that surrounds it, represents the ideal location for the setting of a Living Nativity Scene. visitors will be transported to the Palestine of 2,000 years ago, among settings and atmospheres of the past.
In Marcellano you are inside the Nativity scene! You enter it almost without realizing it, as you walk among the crowd through the small streets, from the prison to the synagogue, from the blacksmith to the bakery, from the potter to the oil mill. About a hundred participants, dramatizing over thirty traditional scenes in the streets of the town, will recall the anticipation of the Event. The narrow alleys and squares of Marcellano will come alive with the herbalist’s shop, the blacksmith’s shop, the fruit, cheese and fish markets, with the shouting of children, the taverns, the oil mill and the bakery. The village will remain suspended when Giuseppe and Maria, in the company of a donkey, travel the streets of the town in search of shelter, finding it only outside the walls, in a cave. The comet, crossing the sky of this medieval Palestine, will show the way to the Magi, who will come to adore the Child warmed by a donkey and an ox.
