Acera Castle
The castle was founded in 1296 at will of Spoleto's commune in order to control the territory.
Nowadays the current town appears to us, amidst the thick woods that are probably linked to its name, with its compact structure and preserves many traces of its medieval history. Passing the white and pink stone walls, we tiptoe thru the medieval gate, the ancient entrance to the castle, and immediately come across the church dedicated to Santa Maria and the one dedicated to San Biagio, both decorated with 14th-century frescoes. Interestingly, on the main access road, we see the residence of the Prioreschi family, one of the most influential in the small town. The 18th-century complex with polygonal tower was built by incorporating two towers, a 14th-century one with a rectangular plan and a 16th-century one with a pentagonal plan.
