The balcony of Umbria
Montefalco is called "ringhiera dell'Umbria", which means the balcony of Umbria since it is situated on the top of a hill that makes it possible to enjoy a panoramic view over the whole Umbrian territory.
In fact, Perugia, Spoleto, Foligno, Trevi, Gualdo Cattaneo, Bevagna and most of the Apennines can be seen from a fantastic point of view. As you can see on the fresco painted by Gozzoli in the Church Museum of San Francesco, the rural landscape of Montefalco has not changed dramatically, in fact even today there are still olive groves and vineyards on the sides of the hill, enhancing the landscape with the silvery crowns of olive trees and the changing colors of vines, turning from green to yellow to red, until their leaves fall during winter.
