Barattano Castle
It is isolated among vineyards and olive groves, with its compact, impregnable structure, as if it had come out of a medieval background. It was built in the 13th century and called Villa Sant’Angelo in Piscina. It later changed its name to the current one, apparently “because of the fraudulent people who lived there”. Crossing its impressive 15th-century walls, you can get into a truly old-time atmosphere; it preserves its bridge house and the high towers with brackets. Some of them are elevated and are a good example of the solid military architecture used for defensive purposes. The castle was controlled by Todi for centuries, and today it fascinates us with its characteristic stone alleys and its original and authentic structure. Outside the castle, there is the small 13th-century Church of St. Bartolome, made of white and pink ashlars.
