Bevagna is located in the center of the Umbrian Valley, in a small basin with a comfortable flat shape, surrounded by a crown of hills and ancient castles. Its privileged position made it rich and famous in ancient times. It has a millenary history, a historical and artistic heritage of considerable interest, it is easily accessible due to its central location and closeness to Foligno, and is well connected to Rome, Florence, and Ancona. It is halfway between the north and south, east and west of the Italian peninsula. Bevagna is not that far from Perugia’s airport, San Francesco d’Assisi. The city is one of the “I Borghi più Belli d’Italia” (Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages) and it is “Bandiera Arancione” (Orange Flag), which certifies the tourist-environmental quality.

It is an indissoluble tangle of different eras full of alleys, squares, palaces, churches, gates, and bridges and has a complex and fascinating history, full of wonders. Bevagna is like an open-air museum that has been hosting for years one of the most suggestive historical festivals in Italy: il Mercato delle Gaite (the Market of Gaite) which allows a journey to the Middle Ages of everyday life and work thanks to its unique and realistic reconstruction. You can enjoy a visit to the Gaite small shops at any time of the year and see how skilled artisans produce paper, silk fabrics, candles, and painted panels, just as they did in the Middle Ages.
Bevagna is part of the Sagrantino Wine Route and is known for its excellent food and wine, which can easily be tasted in its extraordinary wine cellars and its many welcoming restaurants, wine shops, bars, and cafés or during specific events throughout the year.

The “elegant and natural, peaceful and pleasant” inhabitants’ lifestyle in this small Umbrian village represents the quiet living described by the sociologist Giuseppe de Rita in a neologism called Bevagnizzazione. This word is also included in the famous Italian dictionary “Treccani”. These characteristics are still widespread and deeply rooted in Bevagna and are particularly appreciated by the many visitors.
