Easter events, procession of the dead Christ, race of the Risen Christ
Primavera a Bevagna
A tradition of fourteenth-century origin that is renewed every year on Good Friday in Bevagna.
The members of the Confraternity of Mercy, in black tunic and purple cord, parade by torchlight through the streets of the village, in a representation of extraordinary emotional impact which every year creates a mystical atmosphere. The hooded Crucifers walk along the pavement with a rhythmic gait, accompanied by the sound of chains. On Easter Sunday the Risen Christ Race takes place.
The beautiful wooden statue of the risen Christ is carried on the shoulders by the brotherhoods running up to the main altar of the church of San Michele Arcangelo, to the festive sound of the Gloria.
