Reenactment of the Festa della Frasca
When the olive harvest ended, the “Buonfinita” was celebrated
This was marked by spontaneous festivities in the courtyards of rural farmhouses, where small gifts—typically for the landowner—were hung on an olive branch.
Around this decorated branch, all the harvest participants would gather to dance, recite traditional stornelli (folk rhymes), and enjoy the simple dishes of peasant cuisine. Every year, at the end of November, Giano dell’Umbria reenacts the Festa della Frasca with a parade through the streets of the medieval village.
A cart, drawn by oxen, carries the decorated “frasca” to the main square, accompanied by harvesters in period costumes, traditional tools, and a folk group that revives the songs and dances of Umbrian rural traditions.
The parade concludes with a celebration featuring tastings of bruschetta drizzled with the new olive oil, along with other local specialties and the excellent wine of the Giano hills.
