Palazzo dei Consoli

Consuls' Palace is a grim Gothic building built in 1270, and it was considered the symbol of civil power and its judiciary, established in Bevagna in 1187, for many centuries.

The building housed the Governor’s residence, the Great Council Chamber, the archives, and the prison. There are three large arches and their associated openings, followed by a fourth smaller one which emphasizes the internal structure of the Loggias, along with cross vaults and mighty pillars. The 1832 earthquake caused significant damage to the interior of the building, so the Town Hall was transferred to Palazzo Lepri. In 1871, thanks to the Epaminonda brothers and Temistocle Mattioli and the efforts made by all the Bevagna families, the Francesco Torti theatre was built inside the palace and finally opened in 1886. The theatre is a little art masterpiece, and it has been decorated by Domenico Bruschi and Mariano Piervittori, who were two great painters of that era. The current curtain is a work by Luigi Frappi.
