The Church of St. Fortunatus
The Church of St. Fortunatus is located outside the city walls, in the middle of the St. Fortunatus forest.
It is a unique place of peace and silence, it stimulates spontaneous meditation and reflection, and its centuries-old trees and the magnificence of nature take you out of time, into a timeless atmosphere. The so-called caves of St. Fortunato are excavated in a clay bank and are situated at the edge of the forest. The cloister in front of the church, where the Chapel of Roses is located, is particularly impressive, while inside the church itself you can admire Benozzo Gozzoli’s works, more precisely, you can see them in the lunette above the entrance gate and on the right wall of the church where there is a painting of the Saint to whom the church is dedicated.
