The Church of St. Augustine
In 1258, it became the property of the St. Augustine hermits, who restored it and dedicated it to the founder of their order. Blessed Ugolino from Gualdo Cattaneo became the prior of this order for a while. The church facade is made of sandstone and has an ogival gate in pink and white stone decorated with the sculpture of the village’s patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel. The interior of the church has some fragments of frescoes, some of which were lost during the 1620 plague since rooms were cleaned by covering the walls with quicklime. One of the surviving frescoes is located along the left wall, in a small chapel: it represents a Crucifixion and saints painted in 1482 by a Foligno painter called Nicolò di Liberatore. In this fresco, he also painted Blessed Ugolino, whose cell is located in this church.
