Oratory of St. Sebastian

Along the ancient route of the Flaminian way, we come across the small church of St. Sebastian from the early years of 16th century as a votive offering for having escaped contagion from the plague at a time, between 1522 and 1528, when the disease was particularly widespread in Umbria region.

The oratory is a precious casket decorated with devotional paintings by Giovanni di Pietro, also known as Lo Spagna, and members of his workshop. The main fresco depicts the Madonna and Child in Glory and Saints Sebastian and Roch, traditionally invoked, contra pestem (against the plague). The façade of the aedicule was later restored based on a project by the renowned architect Valadier at the end of the 18th century.
