St. Gaspar Refuge
The St. Gaspar Refuge belongs to the Giano dell'Umbria town hall and rises on the peaks of the Martani Mountains at 1099 meters asl.
Over the years, it has become one of the main attractions in Giano dell’Umbria thanks to its good food, but above all thanks to the breathtaking view that can be admired from where it is located. The 1099 meter-high peak is isolated and has a panoramic view over most of Umbria, from Lake Trasimeno to Gubbio to Assisi as well. Because of its structure and position within the Apennine Mountains, Monte Martano di Giano is called “the roof of Umbria”. The area is full of caves and sinkholes and karstic phenomena caused by water erosion, of which the most interesting one is Fosso di Pozzale. The same water, in the downstream area, feeds several sources.
