Comune di Castel Ritaldi
Castel Ritaldi is an Umbrian hamlet apparently straight out of one of the most beautiful tales, those with a palace, heroes, horses and enchanted woods. There is the castle, and as in any fairy tale worth its name, it sits on the top of a gentle hill, overlooking the surrounding landscape and the one drawn at its feet. The village of about 3,000 inhabitants is less than 60 KMs away from the capital Perugia, 20 from Foligno, 15 KMs from Spoleto and about 40 kilometres from Assisi.
The countryside is green and fragrant, dotted with olive groves and vineyards that alternate with paths of extraordinary charm, all of which can be travelled on foot, on horseback or, for the more experienced, by bicycle. Castel Ritaldi, “Paese delle Fiabe” (Fairytale Town): for over twenty years, this fantastic village has held a literary competition for unpublished tales and stories entitled “Mario Tabarrini – Castel Ritaldi Paese delle Fiabe”. The contest is open to everyone, from children aged 3-6 (individual or group work) to teenagers and adults. Last but not least, we must mention the event held in mid-November called Frantotipico, where oil is the absolute protagonist of the days, under the banner of tradition and authenticity in a composite perspective that focuses on the village with its excellence to be made known to young and old alike, through a first hand experience.
