S. Terenziano in festa
The festival takes place between July and August, over ten evenings of excellent music, local gastronomic specialties and fun.
Re-enactment of the Cotta del Cotta: in the month of August, in Pomonte, a hamlet of Gualdo Cattaneo, the production of vegetal charcoal is re-enacted according to tradition. The product of the local carbonari, which characterizes this hilltop village surrounded by the wonderful woods overlooking the Puglia valley. The village has an ancient history and is certainly best known since the Middle Ages: the baronial palace, the Albornoz castle and the Gregory XII Fort are the places of greatest cultural interest. But the production of charcoal and the tradition of the carbonari for which Pomonte was famous in the past, today remains as a fair, historical memory and custom, hence the celebration of La Cotta del Carbone, which still takes place today as a re-enactment of the generation of charcoal.
Pomonte coal is used above all in the kitchen for its valuable chemical-physical characteristics and for the scented and selected wood essences used: holm oak, strawberry tree and manna, which transfer the delicate aromas to foods cooked with this ancient cooking technique, making them sublime on the palate.
